Tryon Community Farm

The Explorers

We’ve been long overdue for this post to pob. Since we got back from our vacation to Portland we’ve had a big surge of creative energy and flew off in countless directions. One of the most awesome things we did while in Portland was visit Tryon Community farm, right on the edge of the Tryon Creek state park.

During the week of March 9th through the 15th, the members of browntown visited Portland, Oregon to volunteer at Tryon Life Community Farm. This farm is nestled right on the edge of the city of Portland, but you can barely tell once you’re there. On our first day we were greeted with lots of mud, goats, chickens and blackberry brambles. Perhaps the best part was meeting the residents of Tryon, who helped us learn about the farm and what life is like there. We all had an amazing time learning about gardening, natural building, and the local plant life of Oregon. I especially enjoyed picking fresh vegetables from the garden for lunch - we made soup, salads, and most delicious of all - tacos! We also helped plant lots of seeds which I know we’re all looking forward to seeing grown up in the summer time when we see Oregon again.
