Urban grow projects
I was wondering if there might be a local aquaponic farm that I could visit or buy food from, when I stumbled across this awesome post over at Treehugger. It’s a series of videos about an organization called Growing Power, and they are a non-profit and land trust organization that works in development of Community Food Systems that help people grow, process, market and distribute food using sustainable methods. They work mainly in Wisconsin and Illinois.
I really like the idea of food being more a part of the community. Back before it was easy to transport food on such a broad scale people cared less about buying new furniture and what mortgage rates were like and more about delicious, home-grown food. Mmm.
I’m still looking for a farm near Portland though, I’d really like to try some quality Pacific seafood.
